The Man in the Red Bandanna

"The Man in the Red Bandana", a short picture book by Honor Crowther Fagan, tells about the heroic acts of one man on September 11, 2001. The main character is a man named Welles. He worked in the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001 a plane crashed into his building. Welled was a volunteer firefighter so he wanted to help people exit the burning building. However, the stairwells were filled with smoke and he couldn’t save everyone. He found people but they were in utter shock so he couldn't save everyone. So, Welles covered his face with his red bandana and helped people find their way out. He climbed back up the stairs countlessly and helped many people reach the ground safely. He even carried some people. In the end, Welles didn’t make it out of the building, he will always be remembered for his heroic actions.

"The Man in the Red Bandana" was a great book that gave me a few thoughts. First Welles had amazing character traits that helped save many people. He was kind, courageous, and selfless. However, most importantly he was very brave. He saved twelve lives! Also, I learned an excellent lesson. Welles was only one person, but he was able to save many people. His actions made a difference in a lot of lives. He also cared more about others than himself. Overall, this was a great book that helped me understand Welles's courageous acts on September 11, 2001.
